Traveling For Thanksgiving

Is it safe to travel for Thanksgiving? As Reuters reports, “Americans defied pleas from state and local officials to stay home for the Thanksgiving holiday in the face of the surging coronavirus pandemic, triggering fresh warnings from health officials with the release of vaccines still weeks away.”

Despite the warnings, many feel that spending time with family is just too important to pass on, especially with the months of lockdown. People are taking their own precautions, however. As Bay News 9 reported, “‘Everyone has just been polite, keeping their distance,” said Kathy Bellar who flew into Tampa International Airport from Dayton, Ohio. ‘On the plane, we filed out by rows there was no one rushing to get off so that was kind of nice,’ she said. ‘l wanted to see my family,’ Bellar added.”

In addition, airlines are taking precautions for travelers. Delta launched the first quarantine-free travel from the US to Europe, thanks to a new testing program that reduces infection chances on a flight to '1 in a million' Business Insider reported.

CNBC states that “American Airlines and British Airways are latest to offer preflight Covid tests to passengers…Starting Nov. 25, travelers on certain London-bound flights from New York, Los Angeles and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport will be able to volunteer to take three Covid-19 tests as part of the trial program: one at-home test before departure, one upon arrival at London Heathrow and a third test, shipped to the traveler after arrival.”

With new processes in place, traveling during COVID has become safer, but it remains to be seen how safe.
