Finally! – A New Terminal for the Star Alliance at Heathrow

Check out Laura Flippin's latest blog post:

Less than a week after it opened, I had the pleasure of flying into the new Queen’s Terminal (aka Terminal 2) at Heathrow Airport in London.  Being a longtime United customer, I generally take the United flight from Washington, DC to London.  For years that has meant schlepping through the really worn and unpleasant Terminal 1. Terminal 1 is overcrowded, and United’s flight to and from DC also came in at the gate furthest out, meaning nearly a ½ mile walk to reach your flight.

The new Queen’s Terminal opened on June 4th and currently is only hosting United flights, although it will eventually have all Star Alliance carriers located there.  Unlike the ill-fated opening of Terminal 5 (British Airways) a few years ago, the Terminal 2 opening seems to have gone well – no lost bags and plenty of friendly staff, arrayed in purple blazers, fleece pullovers, shirts and jackets to denote them as information resources for travelers.  Plus there is an expanded customs arrivals section which has also made entry into the UK much easier and faster.

And, finally, aesthetically, the Queen’s Terminal is truly cool and amazing with its architecture:
